The group La Marraqueta was founded in 1994, that same year
it
produced a self titled CD published by "Caleta",
their own record
label, which has also been a leader featuring emerging alternative
groups in Chile.
While the music created by Marraqueta defies labeling, it
could be
described as "Folk Jazz Fusion" ("Fusión
Criolla") a genre which
emanates from completely and totally unprecedented roots;
a concept
which emphasizes the "chilean experience".
One of La Marraqueta's chief priorities is to investigate
and
rediscover particular roots of Chile's folk and from this
perspective
to obtain a "universal musical language". The group's
musical
influences are diverse and range from ethnic afro-latin to
rock,
jazz and contemporary classical tradition.
In
1999 the group published its second CD titled "Sayhueque",
an
homage to the great and last indigenous "Mapuche nation" chief.
"La Marraqueta III" was
published in 2005; it's the fruit of the
groups' experience acquired through innumerable performances
in Chile
and abroad.
At present La Marraqueta quartet enjoys ample recognition
and
following by chilean audiences as well as an increased participation
in
diverse international festivals and concerts.
